"Finding a way to express the human figure in a language that reflects the twenty-first century is perhaps the greatest challenge in figurative work today."

Figurative painting has a long established global history. Most cultures represented the human form early on in the development of their iconography. We are hard pressed to find a period in art history when the human figure wasn't drawn, painted or sculpted. Representing the figure has always been a thoroughly satisfying experience for me, from my first figure drawing classes in University to connecting with my sitters in my studio today. Capturing the human spirit is very rewarding. My paintings reflect ideas and issues faced by people in my community. The subjects in my paintings are people I have met and felt compelled to paint.
